Saaz is one of four original Noble hops with a distinctive and classic aroma. Known for being widely used in many Bohemian lagers and pilsners. The warm, grassy character comes from the high farnesene content, while the other oils are well balanced.
With such a low percentage of alpha acids, Saaz is definitely an aromatic hop, but its use in bittering gives it a mild bitterness. In addition, the increased polyphenol content helps reduce oxidation, resulting in a longer shelf life for beer made with Saaz.
